Events
The Events tab of Resilience shows world events — weather, disruptions, and other news — that may affect your suppliers, and ties each one to the revenue and spend at stake. Open Global Trade Control Tower → Resilience → Events.
When to use Events
- When a storm, outage, or other disruption hits a region and you need to see which of your suppliers and products it touches.
- When you want to rank recent events by how many suppliers they affect and by the revenue and spend behind those suppliers.
- When you want a standing watch on a lane, HS code, or grade, and an email when new events match.
Before you start
- Resilience must be enabled for your tenant, and Events must be turned on for that tenant. If you don't see the Events tab, check with your Altana administrator.
- Your products, parts, suppliers, and countries of origin must be uploaded with the supply-chain data template and processed. Revenue and spend on that upload are what the impact figures are built from.
What is it
Events lists news that Altana has matched to supplier locations in your network. Each row is one event, grouped by its headline. A map above the table plots the same events. You choose whether you are looking at your direct suppliers or at suppliers further upstream, then narrow the list by date, product, country, and grade.
How events are graded
Every event carries two grades, each A through D. Both are estimates. Review the headline, the source story, and the suppliers behind a row before you act on a grade.
Criticality is the estimated disruption at the facility:
- A — severe disruption for more than one week.
- B — significant disruption.
- C — minor disruption, or a duration under one week.
- D — insignificant impact.
Relevance is the estimated chance the event actually affected that facility:
- A — certain to have affected the facility.
- B — more likely than not.
- C — very unlikely.
- D — did not affect the facility.
The tab opens on criticality A and B and relevance A and B. Turn a grade on or off with the letter buttons. Criticality buttons are colored by grade; relevance buttons are not. Hover the info icon next to either label to read the same rubric in the product.
Filters
Supplier tier switches the whole tab. T1 Supplier Events (the default) covers your direct suppliers. Subtier Supplier Events covers suppliers further upstream. A saved filter is for one tier only.
Product type (HS6) and Countries limit the events to the products and supplier countries you select. Event date from defaults to one month ago. Event date to is empty until you set it, which means through today. Dates are not part of a saved filter: changing the window does not clear the filter you have loaded. Changing tier, grades, HS codes, or countries does.
Map and table
The map draws one pin per event that has a location. Pin color follows criticality, and a higher criticality draws on top. Hover a pin for the headline, date, criticality, and relevance. Click a pin to expand that event in the table.
The table is one row per headline. It shows the event date, headline, Impacted Revenue (revenue of the finished products on the matching paths), Exposed Spend (spend on the direct-supplier products on those paths), Parts Affected, how many suppliers are affected (Affected Tier 1 Suppliers or Affected Sub-tier Suppliers, depending on the tier), Relevance Grade, Criticality Grade, and Story Url for the source article. It opens sorted by the number of affected suppliers, highest first. Open Columns to show fields that are hidden by default, including percent of revenue, percent of spend, and transaction count. Export the current view to CSV.
For example, a weather warning graded B for both criticality and relevance might list four affected direct suppliers and the finished-product revenue and part spend tied to them. The story link is the article Altana matched to those locations.
Explore impact
Expand a row, then use Explore Impact on to break that event out. On T1 Supplier Events the choices are T0 Site, T0 Product, T1 Product, and T1 Supplier. On Subtier Supplier Events you can also open the sub-tier supplier. A supplier drill is where Criticality Reasoning appears: a short note on why that facility received its grade. Product drills show the product, its revenue or spend, and how many parts and suppliers sit on the path.
Notifications
If Notifications is available, it opens a panel on the right. The panel edits the same tier, grades, HS codes, and countries as the tab. Pick a saved filter or create one, then Save. Names are letters and numbers. Delete removes the selected filter.
A saved filter is what the email uses. When new events match, you get a message for that filter, ranked by exposed spend, with the headline, criticality, how many suppliers are affected, the top supplier, and the exposed spend. View in Altana opens this tab with that filter applied. Dates stay whatever window you are looking at; they are not stored on the filter. The first time you open Events with no filters already in the address, the tab loads your first saved filter.
Outputs and interpretation
You get a dated list of events, each tied to the suppliers, parts, and finished products Altana can connect to it, plus the revenue and spend on those paths. Grades are estimates of disruption and of whether the event reached the facility. Sub-tier matches depend on inferred network links. Treat the tab as a way to decide what to look at next, not as a determination that a facility is down.
Constraints and caveats
- The map and table show the current result, up to 100 events. Tighten the date, grades, or countries if a busy window is cut off.
- Impacted revenue and exposed spend depend on the revenue and spend in your supply-chain upload, and on how completely origin is known.
- A grade of D is on the control so you can include it, but the tab does not start with D selected.
