USMCA

The USMCA lens evaluates whether each product qualifies for preferential treatment under the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement. When a product qualifies, it receives a 0% preferential rate that flows into the Duties lens. The lens depends on a confirmed HS code, country of origin, and cost data.

How it works

Altana qualifies a product two ways, following the agreement's product-specific rules of origin:

  • Tariff shift. The non-originating materials undergo the required change in tariff classification for the product.
  • Regional value content (RVC). Enough of the product's value originates in the region, calculated by either the transaction-value or the net-cost method.

The lens applies to a United States import destination (it evaluates against US rules of origin) and covers products whose country of origin is the United States, Canada, or Mexico. USMCA is the agreement supported today; other free trade agreements are not yet covered.

How to use it

The table shows Altana's qualification status alongside your current status and whether a product needs manual review. Statuses are Qualifies, Does Not Qualify, Not Eligible, Missing Information, and Unknown.

  1. Filter to the products that need attention.
  2. Open a product to see the qualification breakdown: the regional value content calculation, the rule that was applied, the materials considered, and any special treatments.
  3. Accept Altana's determination, or manually qualify or disqualify the product with a reason for the record.

Requesting information from suppliers

When a product is missing the cost or material data USMCA needs, you can request it directly from a supplier you work with, rather than chasing it offline. From a product, send a request to a direct supplier; their response flows back into the lens so qualification can run.

FAQ

What does USMCA need to run? A confirmed HS code, country of origin, and the product's cost or bill-of-materials data (used for the regional value content calculation).

What does Missing Information mean? A required input (often cost data or material details) is absent. Add it and rerun.

Why doesn't my product qualify? Its country of origin is outside US, Canada, or Mexico, or it does not meet the tariff-shift or regional-value-content rule. Open the product to see which rule applied.

Are other free trade agreements supported? The lens covers USMCA today.
