Using Case IDs
Tag your searches, exports, and saved explorations with a Case ID to keep a clear audit trail and organize your work by case or project.
Availability: Case IDs are currently available in select customer environments. If you'd like to learn more about enabling this capability for your organization, reach out to your Altana account manager.
When to use Case IDs
Use a Case ID when you need to connect a piece of work in Altana back to a specific investigation, matter, or reporting requirement. Because the Case ID travels with your search, export, and saved exploration, it gives you a consistent reference point across the full workflow.
How it works
- When you start a search, a Case ID field appears at the top of the search interface. This field is available across all search types.
- Enter a Case ID to tag your search. The field accepts free text with no character limit.
- When you export results or save an exploration, the Case ID carries forward automatically.
Where Case IDs appear
- Search interface — enter a Case ID when starting any search.
- Saved explorations — each saved exploration displays its associated Case ID. Longer IDs are truncated to roughly 30 characters in the interface.
- Exports — the Case ID is included when you export search results.
Configuration
Your organization's administrator can configure whether a Case ID is required or optional for exports and saved explorations, so you can match the setting to your compliance and reporting needs.
Constraints and caveats
- Case IDs are available across all search types where the capability is enabled.
- The field accepts free-text input with no character limit.
- A Case ID persists across your workflow: search → export → save.
- Longer Case IDs are truncated to roughly 30 characters in the interface display.
