Using Case IDs

Tag your searches, exports, and saved explorations with Case IDs to maintain clear audit trails and organize your investigations.

Overview

The Case ID field lets you associate your work in Altana with specific cases or projects. Case IDs carry forward automatically from your initial search through to exports and saved explorations, keeping everything connected.

How It Works

  1. When starting a search, you'll see a Case ID field at the top of the search interface. This field is available across all search types.
  2. Enter a Case ID to tag your search — this is a free-text field with no character limits.
  3. When you export results or save an exploration, the Case ID automatically carries forward.

Where Case IDs Appear

  • Search interface — Enter a Case ID when starting any search.
  • Saved explorations — All saved explorations display their associated Case IDs for easy reference. Case IDs are truncated to approximately 30 characters in the UI.
  • Exports — Case IDs are included when you export search results.

Configuration

Your organization's administrator can configure whether Case IDs are required or optional for exports and saved explorations. This setting can be adjusted to match your compliance and reporting needs.

Key Details

  • Case IDs are available across all search types and are auto-enabled.
  • The field accepts free-text input with no character limits.
  • Case IDs persist across your workflow: search → export → save.
