Custom Fields
Who is this for? Catalog managers and tenant administrators who extend the catalog with their organization's own data attributes.
Custom Fields let you define metadata fields beyond Altana's standard attributes and attach them to catalog entities, so your team can capture and track the information your workflows depend on. This tab manages the field definitions; once defined, a field becomes available to hold values on the entity it applies to. Open Settings from the user menu and select the Custom Fields tab.
What a custom field has
- Field Name — the label your team sees.
- Entity Type — the catalog entity the field applies to: Company, Facility, Good, or Good Variant.
- Field Type — the kind of value it holds: Text, List (one or more values), or Number.
Create a custom field
- Select Manage Custom Fields, then New Custom Field.
- Enter a Field Name.
- Choose the Entity Type it applies to.
- Choose the Field Type (Text, List, or Number).
- Select Save.
A field's name, entity type, and field type are fixed once created — there's no edit. To change any of them, delete the field and create a new one.
Delete custom fields
- Select one or more fields with their checkboxes.
- Open the selected menu and choose Delete Selection.
- Confirm in the dialog.
Deleting a field definition removes it from your catalog along with any values stored in it. This can't be undone.
Bulk import and export
From the Manage Custom Fields menu you can Download CSV to export your custom fields and their values, or Upload CSV to set values in bulk (accepts .csv, .xls, and .xlsx).
Uploading a CSV overwrites all existing custom field values with what's in the file. You must acknowledge this before the upload runs, and each affected field is recorded in the Audit Log.
