Altana keeps more than one name for a company. Now, for the companies Altana matches and suggests for you, the product shows a single, consistent name, its clean company name, across the catalog, the canvas, and your workspaces. Suppliers you have verified keep the name you provided. This page explains what that means for you.
What changed?
We standardized on one name for the companies Altana matches for you. Altana keeps more than one name for a company, and until now different parts of the product could show different ones. Now these companies display a single name, their clean company name, in the catalog, the canvas, and your workspaces. Suppliers in your verified network are the exception: because you provided or confirmed those names, they keep the name you gave them rather than the name Altana matches to.
Why did it change?
Clean company name is the verified, canonical name for a company. It is usually the company's current registered name, and it lines up with official records like customs filings and sanctions and UFLPA screening. Standardizing on it gives you one consistent name everywhere you work, and it clears up the confusion of seeing two names for the same company.
Where will you notice it?
The clearest place you will notice it is your exposures list. A company you have been tracking may show a different name than it did before. What you saw previously may look different, but the underlying data is the same. It is the same company and the same exposure, with the same risk. The previous name is still on the company profile under Other Names. On average, about 1 in 10 company names (roughly 10%) will show a different name, and around a third show a smaller change like cleaner capitalization or punctuation. For most companies, nothing changes at all.
Do I need to do anything?
No. Your value chains, your exposures, and your risk findings are the same. The only thing that changed is the name we display.
Is the new name more accurate?
Yes. Clean company name is verified against source records and is usually the current registered name, so it matches what you see in official filings, customs data, and screening lists.
Will names keep changing?
No. This is a one-time move to a single, consistent name. Over time it also means fewer duplicate companies and better matching.
What about suppliers I've verified?
They keep the name you provided. Verifying a supplier, by providing or confirming it yourself, makes your name the one Altana shows. Clean company name applies to the companies Altana matches and suggests for you, not to the suppliers in your verified network. You can tell the two apart by Network Type: Verified (green check) versus Suggested (sparkle icon). See Your Verified and Suggested Network.
Does this clean up the supplier names I upload?
No. This standardizes the display name for the companies Altana matches and suggests for you. It does not dedupe or clean the raw names you upload, which is entity resolution and is separate. And it does not rename your verified suppliers: names you provided are kept as you entered them.
